Troubleshoot your Google Analytics integration

If you have already enabled the Google Analytics integration on your Socital account, and you still can't see Socital events being recorded in your Google Analytics account, follow the steps below.

1. Disable ad blockers on your browser

If you are testing out the Google Analytics integration make sure that you have disabled any extensions that block Google Analytics on your browser, such as ad blockers or any other extension that blocks tracking of your browsing.

2. Test if the integration is working on your website in real-time

To ensure the integration is working go to your Google Analytics account, and under the menu "Realtime" click on "Events". In the Dashboard click on "Events (Last 30 min)".

Go to your website to a page where an active campaign should be displayed according to the targeting rules you have set.

You should start seeing Socital events reported in your Realtime dashboard.

3. Check the version of your Google Analytics script

If Socital events are still not recorded on your Google Analytics account, you may need to select a different setting for the integration.

In the Integrations menu under Account Settings, you can find the different settings for your Google Analytics integration.

These settings refer to the different versions of the Google Analytics script that you may have installed on your website.

The default setting of the Google Analytics integration is to prefer the Global Site Tag. The Global Site Tag (or gtag.js) is the latest version of the Google Analytics script. If this is the version you have on your website the integration should work without any issues.

When do you need to select the Classic Analytics (GA) setting (3rd option)?

There is a case in which you may have to select the 3rd setting (Classic Analytics GA).

If you have the previous version of the Google Analytics script on your website (analytics.js) and at the same time you have the gtag.js for conversion tracking (a tag with id of the format "AW-xxxxxx), you then have to select the "Classic Analytics (GA)" option in the integration settings in the Socital menu.

4. Google Analytics script versions that are not supported

We do not support the legacy Google Analytics script ga.js (gaq). Consider migrating to the latest version of the Google Analytics script (gtag.js).

The integration may also not work if you have a completely custom implementation for Google Analytics on your website.
