For Social Login to work on your site, you need to set up a dedicated Application in each of the social networks you wish to use as a Social Login provider and connect them with your Socital Account.
1) Create a LinkedIn App
Below you can find step-by-step instructions to set up and configure an Application for LinkedIn.
Step 1: Create a new LinkedIn App
- Login to your LinkedIn Account.
- Go to LinkedIn Developer’s page.
- In the Header Navigation Menu, click on “My Apps” and select “Create Application”.
4. In the “Create a New Application” page, fill in the following details, read LinkedIn API Terms of use, click that you agree with them and then click “Submit”.
Step 2: Configure your new LinkedIn App
Note: After clicking submit you will be presented with your Authentication Keys, a “Client ID” and a “Client Secret”, which correspond to the App ID and App Secret you will need to input into Socital’s platform, as described in the section 2 of this article (Connect your LinkedIn App). You can always return to this page by selecting the “Authentication” tab inside your LinkedIn application dashboard.
5. Under “Default Application Permissions” check the “r_basicprofile” and “r_emailaddress” boxes.
6. Under “OAuth 2.0 – Authorized redirected URLs” enter Socital’s callback URL (https://plugin.socital.com/api/v1/auth/callback) and click enter.
7. Click “Update”.
Step 3: Activate your LinkedIn App
8. Once you have Updated the “Authentication” page, click on the “Settings” tab and under “Application Settings”.
9. Turn the Application Status to “Live”.
10. In the “Legal Agreement Language” drop-down menu, choose either “Browser Locale Setting” or a specific preferred language.
Note: The “Browser Locale Setting” automatically displays the language based on the country set in the user’s browser settings.
11. Click “Update”.
2) Connect your LinkedIn App with your Socital account
To allow Socital to connect to LinkedIn on your behalf, to extract User Data, authenticate users and offer its other services to you, you need to connect to your Socital Account the LinkedIn app which you are using for LinkedIn Login.
Step 1: Get your LinkedIn App ID and App Secret
1. Go to LinkedIn Developers platform.
2. Login to your LinkedIn account.
3. Click “My Apps” and choose the App you would like to connect to your Socital Account.
4. In your App’s Dashboard, you can see the App ID and App Secret.
Step 2: Add your LinkedIn App ID and Secret to your Socital Account
5. Login to your Socital Dashboard.
6. Open the drop-down menu in the top right corner and choose “Account Settings”.
7. From the left-hand menu open the “Connect Social Apps” tab.
8. Click on “Connect a LinkedIn Application”.
9. In the pop-up enter your Linkedin Application Name, your LinkedIn Client ID in the “Application Key field” and your LinkedIn Client Secret in the “Application Secret field” and click on “Connect”.
10. You should see a Success message in the popup.
11. You can now see the connected LinkedIn App in the list of your Connected Social Media apps.
